Christmas has come early for us here at Staff Treats. Our very own WorkLifeShow host, Kathryn Wilson, has been selected to guest host on the BBC. BBC Radio 1 have revealed the all-new schedule of guest presenters set to take over the airwaves across the festive period. Kathryn Wilson will bring her energy and Northern Irish charm to Radio 1’s ‘Life Hacks’ and the Sunday Chart Show on December 29th, alongside Scotland’s Fat Brestovca. She will join 34 other up-and-coming presenters who were picked over an amazing 1,100 entrants.

Speaking on the news, Kathryn enthused that: "It’s brilliant to know that media powerhouses are focusing on talent development and giving rising stars the opportunity to have tangible and worthwhile career experience."

30-year-old Belfast native Kathryn's career began in radio, when she volunteered with local station Blast106. She was quickly picked up by national broadcast players, Cool FM and Q Radio, where she chalked up over five years’ experience on both overnight shows and the celebrated Breakfast Slot.

These days, Kathryn spends her time travelling between England and Northern Ireland, working as a London club DJ and a multimedia presenter, including spots on ITV’s famous morning show, This Morning, and regularly contributing to Radio Ulster. She told the news: “I am incredibly excited to take to the airwaves and share my talents, and my proud Belfast accent, with millions of people. I hope people in Northern Ireland will get behind me and tune in on December 29th."

Working hard and pushing for her dreams has paid off for our Kathryn. Six years prior, she gave her radio demo to Ben Cooper, Radio 1's controller. His reaction? He advised her she had a lot of work to do. She obviously listened, because now she's on the Radio 1 Christmas schedule.

The new team has the chance to follow in the footsteps of the station’s current DJs including Greg James and Nick Grimshaw who both started out presenting on student stations, Clara Amfo who began her career as a radio intern, and Annie Mac who previously worked as Assistant Producer to Zane Lowe.
